Author's note: Decided to publish this interesting short story which does involves my original characters for the very first time as I am going to truthfully introduce to both Meredith 'Merry' and Kina without any surnames as unfortunately I have no idea what do I want to choose as I am very indecisive when it comes to the family surnames for many of my OCs.

"I'd think you should do what your god-mother and your father had spoke to you." Kina's best friend Meredith who is also known as "Merry' towards her family and friends had spoke up to Kina whom the both of them are best friends on and off the campus and the basketball court as they are now sitting outside of the West Tennis Courts of the UCSD Campus despite how the weather had been cold; gray and cloudy while it has been drizzling lately and both of the wahines had decided to go for a walk around the UCSD Campus and while doing it so; Merry had luckily brought an umbrella although the both of them had brought their rain jackets to wear it on them while it is still drizzling outside with a light drizzling rain.
As they watch the other students running to search for a refuge to take cover from the cold, gray and freezing drizzling rain; meanwhile both of the girls decided to walk outside after spending their time indoors at the library to do their studies as well as heading for their respective classes and after hours of spending time indoors; hey did taken their lunch at the dining hall followed by a walk out in a cold; gray and a sleepy yet a rainy afternoon at San Diego as well.
"What do you mean? I mean every time when I tried to leave him; he'll always beg me to stay with him and yet he also lure me for forgiveness from me as well however I did told him that he too needed to sincerely pray to God for what he had done by committing to his sins and yet having to run with the demon as well thus yet he also had became a minion of the Demon itself as well." Kina had replied to both her best friend and team mate on and off the basketball court; the classrooms and even outside of the UCSD Campus.
"Look, Kina: I know you wanted to give him another chance to definitely let you know that he said he was sorry for what he had done towards you based on how does tried to control you in a way where you tried to stop dominant form however instead you did ended up giving away all of your remaining powers towards him and yet you just let him treat you as when you are either a video game character where he can get to control you and your personality or even a puppet where he can take control the puppet strings while he mentally think you are nothing but his very own puppet."
"But what can I do? There is nothing I can possibly do to truthfully stop him from taking the full on level of controlling me."
"Look, sweetie: Kina . . . I . . . I know it has been a tough time for you to truthfully experience this type of relationship in your very own life but . . . your family and I along with all of our friends . . . are feeling genuinely worried about you."
"Yeah but . . ."
Merry shushes her before she peaks: "Listen to her: Kina--I know you really wanted him to be there for you however the head coach had said she was feeling truthfully concerned about how you had been missing both the classes and also the basketball practice as well. I truthfully hate to sincerely say this to you but you may want to let him go for your good ever since she [Kina's god mother] does feel truthfully worried that he may have been an obstacle towards you and your life plus your career too as well ever since she did noticed about how you did simply prioritized the relationship between you and your estranged relationship with him obviously."
"I know I shouldn't be prioritizing the already fragmented relationship between me and him but my heart didn't want to simply move on from him ever since he has always tried his best to definitely search for ways to truthfully make me feeling sincerely joyful ver since I first met him online."
She (Merry) placed her right hand on her left tight and spoke: "Look, I know you want to truthfully make up the broken relationship between you and him but . . . no 'true offense to you in general but if I were you; I would prefer to let him go and put my priority on the more critical topics I should be placing the focus on it."
When Kina hadn't said anything; meanwhile Merry had give her left thigh a squeeze to let her know that she and the rest of the Triton's wahine basketball team plus their friends are going to be there just for her.
"Look, I know this isn't exactly what you do truthfully want in your very own life but God . . . God wanted to see you being happy in your very own life and yet he wanted to see live; thrive and shine in your very own life; sweetie.
"But what he [God] doesn't want you to see is to definitely watch you getting knocked down over and over again in your very own life by the same guy whom you may have an actual relationship between you and him except; he is a man whom he had became a minion of the demon that is and we . . . your family . . . your basketball team mates; our friends and I . . . we don't want to sincerely watch you getting hurt over and over again from the sidelines and yet letting him win along with the demon itself.
"No offense; sweetie; but you do truthfully deserved better in your very own life; love."
"Really?"
"Absolutely; what do you want to do when you are graduating from UCSD, K?" She ask her best friend out of curiosity based on what are her best friend's graduation plans after her time at UCSD comes to an end on a chapter of the book of her very own life where she is currently doing the writing and the editing plus the re-writing part of her life too as well.
"I don't know, but all I do know I do wanted to do marine biology that is; Merry." She shrugged sheepishly as she stared out at the empty tennis courts and the cold; bland and chilly gray skies of the rain.
"Really? That's so amazing; Kina." Merry replied; feeling genuinely ecstatic/ enthusiastic about how her best friend planned out to definitely give marine biology a go ever since she had told her about she had fallen in love with the ocean ever since she was a young wahine and this is where her dad had not only brought her to countless aquariums on so many countless trips but also at the same time; when Kina got around 10 or 11 years old; she even got the chance to be PADI Certified Scuba Diver and she [Kina] was feeling truthfully happy and thankful about she got the chance to learn how to scuba dive but also at the same time; her god mom had told her she used to be a recreational scuba diver but stopped due to how she is working as an elementary school teacher however K had decided to let her know that when she got the proper time to free herself from the busy schedule as an elementary school teacher; she wanted to bring her scuba diving at the waters of Kailua Kona as she wanted her to have a 'once-in-a-lifetime' scuba diving trip with the manta rays and she also wanted her to have both a memorable and an unforgettable diving trip where she can share it with her body of elementary school students about how she had the most wonderful trip of her very own life by one of the players whom she used to coach her back when she was a very young basketball player during a girls basketball program Kina used to sign up with the permission; acknowledgements and blessings from her dad and the rest is history between the both of them.
While Kina does love both of her birth parents equally, unconditionally; sincerely: and steadily as well; she did felt a pang of internal pain that she does wish she can do more for her mom whom she wanted to talk to her on just about everything however since her birth mom is deaf; the only way she can communicate with her is by sign language where her dad had taught her ASL to help her communicate with her birth mum better but sadly, Kina did felt the wistful pain she wanted to talk to her mum by letting her know about everything however because she [K's birth mom] is deaf; the only way she can definitely talk to her is either by ASL or otherwise by writing notes to each other.
Plus fights are seldom too as well as although both of her parents got separated when she was at a very young age; her dad still remain a strong, sincere and an unconditionally faithful relationship between him and her mom; she would always get to see him from time to time; from the Sunday Morning sessions at the local church where he worked there as a local pastor apart from being a full-time assistant food truck owner with his long-time friend Robert to also how he would also have long term stays at their apartment where she, her birth mum and her sister all lived together until the both of them are fully old enough to look both after their birth mom and themselves at around 10 or 11 years old; he had decided to move into his own solo apartment where it is a soho apartment however he got the full-on ownership of the apartment thus she can get to see him from time to time along with her sister whom just like Kina; she is busy with her very own life too as well as she plans on either becoming a hairstylist by opening a hair salon or becoming her own business woman while Kina had her life plans of her own to either play basketball and go professional, become her own business woman or to become a marine biologist or to work in the marine life department at a local aquarium.
Plus although she is feeling both thankful and happy plus blessed she has a wonderful ohana of her own; but she couldn't help but wondering the thoughts about having an actual 'mom figure' whom she can chat with her especially when it comes to the topics where her dad wished he can give her much of a help; from dealing with mean wahines at school to having her first period as well as her first relationship with a partner whom the both of them have an endless relationship fulfill with the endless amount of sincere love, joy; faith and support towards each other and her first marriage with them and so on and so forth although she has her sister she can always lean on her but with the both of them having the obligation to definitely take on the role of caretaker towards their birth mom and a busy schedules for the both of them individually; they had less time to interact with each other yet alone to spoke with each other about the typical girl talks they always wanted to have.
However; both of the sisters maintain a deeply strong; steady and a fruitful relationship between each other: as her sister has a group of close-knit friends she can lean on them for the endless and the steady support she could rely on both God and her close friends: for Kina; she would normally rely on her friends too as well except with the more complex grown-up topics she wanted to share with them but feeling too shy to speak with them as she felt scared and timid about how she would get teased and judged by the other students and yet having to be bullied by the mean students; luckily God is there to rescue shy Kina with a grown-up wahine who is a middle school teacher she now confide in her in an undisclosed type of conversation she would normally speak with her about the more tougher and the more grown-up topics she would normally have a super long and an endless conversation between both her and the teacher and the teacher had later on become her long time actual god mother whom she have rely on her for the longest time in her very own life endlessly.
Plus her dad was also feeling genuinely overjoyed about how she does have a god mom she would always rely on her whenever she does needed a 'mom figure' the most and after the ohana met each other at an independence day party they threw it at a relatives house; this is where she also got closer to one of her cousins ever since when she was younger; the both of them would spend time at the beach; playing mermaids in the waves and building sandcastles as well as collecting sea shells; starfishes and sea glass as sometimes K would love to examine a different item where her cousin would keep her distance from it; whether is it a piece of a seaweed or a hermit crab or even perhaps a lagoon pool; Kina would always get close to it plus she even got the chance to snorkel when she is experienced enough to swim out in the open waters with her god mom on her side; she spend hours and hours in the water; snorkeling and dreaming she could be either be the next generation of Sylvia Earle or perhaps Brian Skerry who although he is an underwater photographer but she was too hypnotized by the underwater pictures of the animals he had taken under the sea just at certain times she always imagined herself as a real life Ariel or her daughter Melody whom she is the main protagonist for the sequel movie of 'The little mermaid 2; Return to the sea' sometimes when she [Kina] was swimming under the water; maybe perhaps she could definitely be the next Andrea Marshall who is a marine biologist as she is nicknamed 'The queen of mantas' after doing her research on manta rays and discovering a second species of manta ray which we known today as the giant manta ray.
Plus while she usually write it only in her diary about the experiences on how she always loved to be a mermaid if being an elegant mermaid is an option and live under the sea as her home by her imagination; she also wrote about her daily life as well as what are the things she is feeling truthfully thankful for this particular day as well as countless bible verses she had revises it from the bible and she also had taken notes from both her dad and her god mom as well.
While she did shared the stories with her sister back when they are younger; unfortunately it ended drifts off ever since she knew she couldn't always share so much of her very own secrets with anyone or anybody especially if this is a topic where they are currently uninterested in hearing it from you.
Consequently; the conversations K only has with her sister are mostly on the Christian R & B Music they listened along with the musicians whom they did listened to them online as well as K-Pop [Mostly on the groups her sister had genuine interest in but it ended up fading into the background for a while]; favorite things they liked and disliked; the books they read and also the TV shows they used to watch it together especially the 'That so Raven' series they used to watch it together as well as the other Disney movies; TV Series and also other childhood TV shows they also watched it back in their childhood and their teen-hood days plus the Barbies, the My Scene dolls and also the Bratz dolls they do have it as well as trading the teen magazines they would read it together as well as the catalogs they would get it from Delia's, Roxy [the surf brand]: Limited Too; Pottery Barn and even Billabong, Rip curl plus Hurley as well as sharing bible verses and doing bible studies together too in addition to confiding in each other too as well.
They also wrote their wishlists too to God to bless the both of them to get what they want but their dad had told them just don't get too overboard with it and looking back at the wishlist she wrote it to God back when she was a keiki along with her sister; it does feels tacky as she now have better wishes and prayers she could always turn to God and tell him what she does want from him and truer to her words; some of the wishes she had wrote in her diary had came true; from going to UCSD as her dream university as well as HPU: getting a 'real' PADI scuba diving certificate she had always prayed for it unconditionally and thanked God for it as well as going to the islands of Hawaii as a 'dream' holiday for her ohana: getting her very first 'real' nail polish set [It is the China Glaze Neon Nights Collection her sister got it for her since she loves doing a matching pair of manicure and pedicures of her own] and best of all; going to the aquariums of the world as she fondly recalls the memories of how she loved the trip to Georgia Aquarium with both her parents and her sister during their trip to the Georgia state to visit a long-time friend of her dad's whom he now calls Atlanta his home.
"Um, hello; aloha: earth to Kina!"
"Huh, what?"
"You seems to be daydreaming about something; K."
"Oh sorry, you know I mentioned earlier about how I wanted to either become a marine biologist or work at the marine department?"
"Oh yeah, definitely; is this the reason why you spoke to me about how you are heading to Hawaii for Grad school at HPU: right?"
"Yep, you say it! I'm excited to go there but I am going to miss you as well."
"Oh, really?"
"Sadly."
"Oh, Kina: I am so sorry; I wish we can spend more time together at UCSD but . . ."
"All good things sadly comes to an end dejectedly."
"Absolutely and . . . on a lighter note: I wanted to say it is so amazing that you get the chance to go to Hawaii for both a grad school and a whole new opportunities to be opened up by God himself."
"No way, really?"
"Uh-huh; do you remember how your dad brought you to every different aquariums whenever you are traveling either locally or even overseas; this is where you got enthusiastic about watching the sea creatures swimming inside the aquarium?"
"Oh yeah, definitely. I would think of having to either work at an aquarium either locally or overseas otherwise I can do volunteering too as well which is a really exciting."
"Just remember; Kina; when one door closes; this is where the Lord is going to open the next door as he prepares you for the next opportunity coming ahead of you in your very own life; K--I promise you; both you and God are going to rock and roll both at the aquarium and at the ocean; K."
"Cool, so . . . what do you want to do after you graduate from UCSD? More basketball opportunities or maybe going for a typical mundane job?" K ask M as she pulled off a lose thread from a long sleeve shirt she is now wearing underneath the rain jacket as a layered outer wear then toss the lose thread across into the rain.
"I don't know, Kina; my mum would be happy to see what I wanted to do but she also wants me to be in a stable place unconditionally life wise as well thus I can't pretty much say basketball is a forever thing so no offense to you, K." M replied; admitting the part where her mum wanted her to be in an unconditionally stable place in all forms of her life just as she remembers how her mom had warned her about how basketball isn't going to be a permanent profession for life as she wanted Merry to find a more equally stable; secure and perhaps maybe even a less flashy type of career ever since she [Merry's mum] isn't the biggest fan of how both Disney Channel and Nickelodeon would exploit really young keikis and yet they do such dark things behind the scenes.
"Sorry; I really didn't mean to go off topic but you know how my mum wanted me to definitely do what I always wanted to do but she did always wanted me to also do something I can definitely do in the long-term run not only to have a stability in my very own life permanently but also at the same time she wanted me to thrive in my very own life as well.
"Not in a way where you hog the spotlight from other people but more like they wanted you to be successful in your very own life where you can always thank the lord for living the type of life where you can be both happy and successful at the same time." She admitted sheepishly about what she had mentioned earlier to Kina while K hums 'Fill me up' by Cejae.
"Oh okay, I understand; my God mom wanted me to do the same too as well."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, exactly; she; my dad and even . . . even my birth mom plus my sister and all of our friends as well as God--all they wanted to see is us shining and thriving in our very own life while having the well-deserved and an endless amount of stability at the same time."
"Oh wow, that's amazing."
"Yeah, I mean . . . "
"You mean what?"
"No offense to you but I do wish . . ."
"You do wish what?"
"I do wish . . . my birth mum can have a voice of her own just so she can speak with us just as how normally there are so many normal people whom they can definitely talk to their mums about something and meanwhile . . . "
"Meanwhile what?"
"Here I am; with a deaf mum whom she couldn't speak at all as I do have is a dad; a sister and a god mother whom they do have a voice to speak but not my own birth mum whom she is truthfully deaf permanently."
"Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that from you, K. I mean I wish I can give you much of the help but still . . . I mean no offense; Kina."
She let's out a quiet chuckle and said to Merry:
"Oh no, it's okay; no offense taken; M. I mean I do always wish my mum has a permanent voice that is however it is so difficult to definitely speak to her without even knowing that you needed to learn to use ASL to speak to her."
"Oh."
"I mean you did mentioned that you do have a graduate just for you ahead of your future; do you?"
"Oh yeah; I did but as I had mentioned earlier about how my mum does always wanted me to have a permanently stable life in general as she does truthfully think a future isn't going to be a permanent option
maybe God has a plan ahead just for you just as what you said earlier."
"Oh you said it, Merry."
"Exactly."
Then while both of the wahines stare out at the rainy scene; Kina decided to break the silence between both of the wahines while the both of them are quietly staring out at the rain.
"Hey, do you want to head to the new cafe we saw the other day? I could go for an acai bowl right now." K asked Merry while the both of them stared out at the rainy scene for a long while.
"Sure; no problem. Do you want to go for an acai bowl? I'm starving." M replied to K.
"Okay, but as long as it is a summer berry flavored bowl then I am in." She replied as both of the wahines shivered in the cold; wet and light drizzling rain walking together as they huddled up for warmth:
"Me too, but I want the mango sunshine bowl ever since it has been a long while since I last taken it."
"Sure, Merry: and coffee?"
"None for me since I had burned the midnight oil by pulling an all-nighter to do the work for my next up and coming classes and seriously; the espresso I had drunk on that night does really kicked in on my internally so . . . maybe on the next morning." Merry admitted sheepishly about why did she stayed up late at the 24-7 bookstore and cafe hybrid as the barista who works at there had noticed an increase in students coming there as a place to study outside of their home and they would serve a free coffee of choice and when Merry had order an espresso drink; she had originally ordered one but they ended up giving her another few more rounds of espresso to the point where an elderly man ask her if she is feeling truthfully okay but when she replied to him about she was feeling the jitter from the cups of espresso she had drank to pull out an all-nighter to burn the midnight oil; he ask the same barista whom they luckily apologized to her for giving her a few cups of espresso then he gave her a free complimentary cup of warm water and the same complimentary cup of hot lavender tea to help her with the unexpected hangover she had from the cups of espresso coffee she had drunk the same night she had pulled an all nighter to do her studies and complete her work for the up and coming classes she needed to submit her work in along with the other students.
"Oh okay, same; I would love to go for an iced latte but I'm like 'you know what: wahine? Let's go for something else'. I'll say a pair of warm water for us that is." She said while placing her right arm on Merry's left shoulder as she snuggle up on her neck.
"Cool. Stella had also texted us she is there too as well."
"Do you want to say 'Aloha' to her?"
"Absolutely! I mean Stella is one of us now since she does also play basketball with us; do you remember?"
"Oh sorry, my bad but yes; I did truthfully remember it; wahine."
"Oh yeah, me too: K. Are you feeling truthfully cold from the rain? I mean . . . I am." Merry whisper while her teeth clatter from the cold rainy weather of the light drizzle.
"Same, let's hope the cafe can warm us with a cup of chocolate for us to definitely give us a place to study and chit-chat at the same time!"
"Oh yeah and when you mentioned the word 'A cup of hot chocolate': I can't wait to try the brand new dark chocolate they had added it to the menu; K."
"Oh yeah, me too except I'll go for the classic. So . . . extra marshmallows or extra whip cream?"
"I"ll say extra marshmallows especially if they are the miniature ones or otherwise maybe an extra layer whip cream especially if this is a peppermint cream during Christmas time."
"Oh same but I don't mind about both at all!"
"What??? You are going all in with the extra cream and marshmallow??? No offense; Kina but . . . I sometimes feel as if you do have a sweet tooth that everyone knew it in the very beginning when they did met you."
"Hey! I mean . . . no offense but you, Merry do realize there are people who does have an extra level of sweetness they can turn it up; don't you think?"
"Maybe . . . but just don't tell Neil about this since he has plans on trying out their brand Christmas latte on the brand new Gingerbread latte where he did ask them to add an extra layer of peppermint cream. Also, no offense to Neil by the way in general."
"Ha ha, no offense taken; my friend, M: maybe for you it might be the either the thin mints or the special Christmas cookies you love taking it with the peppermint latte you used to drink it from SB but now . . . usually; it is from the independent coffee shops right now."
"You said it, K: and I know you love your with an extra does of both on your HC."
"Ha ha but only if I did told you about a distressing story to you just as what I did earlier but for now, let's go to the brand new indie cafe we wanted to try out for a very long while!"
"Oh yeah, I'm in!"
"Me too, 'cause I'm freezing!!!"
"Same here; help!!!!!"
Then both of the wahines huddled each other for warmth while walking; chattering and laughing with each other under Merry's long dark green umbrella with gold accents around the edges of the umbrella she got it from her mum as her mum got it from the hotel company where she is currently working at there as a housekeeper and a cleaner for long hours.

Plus because I don't truthfully have a name for Kina's god mom although this story does truthfully inspired by Liatu's real life story however instead I have decided to add my own twist for example how I have decided to let it take place at San Diego, California instead of Washington DC where Liatu is originally from Washington DC: I have decided to make a change to let Kina be the wahine from San Diego [Aloha to the Galloways ohana; hailing from San Diego themselves.] While Meredith a.k.a Merry is from Santa Barbara just like Eliza herself plus Vera whom her official face claim is a WNBA player named Veronica Burton as she is from Minnesota plus Paula is originally from New York City where her used to work as a lawyer there however after getting a full-on child custody of his own daughter as he got separated from his estranged wife; he decided to move to Washington State for his work however while he is at Washington State; he had decided to become a full-time dad where he decided to move to the island of Oahu, Hawaii as he had met a friend during his time at Stanford University before going for Harvard's University for his graduation year followed by law school as well during his time at the East Coast of USA--they decided to become Paula's official god parents as her aunt and uncle from the island of Oahu, Hawaii where she spend most of her childhood there until when she had finished school then when she returned to Washington State; she has plans on returning to the islands of Hawaii for her time at Hawaii Pacific University where she met Eliza during her freshman year on orientation day and after that; they did met Vera during their sophomore year plus they met Kina during their graduation year as *Paula works at a local and independent bookstore at the area of Kaimuki while Eliza works next door at the new independent surf themed cafe where it opens just next door and Vera works at the Ala Moana Sephora outlet although she did applied to Victoria Secret but they gently rejected her offer thus although she had applied for Mac Cosmetics as well as Illy Cafe; she did managed to apply for Sephora as well but more so of a back-up job as she works at Illy cafe at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
For Kina, she does loads of volunteering but also works at the Waikiki Aquarium at the gift shop as a job where she can get the stability she needed it while living in the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Anyway, I apologize for a very long footnote however I'd think for Mano; he does loads of volunteering but works at Ross since he told them he used to work there since his days at secondary school as an alternative to those brands on Brandy Melville; Abercrombie and Finch and Hollister where usually he did noticed the upper secondary students worked there but the they did acted differently behind the backs of the more older and experienced co-workers plus the customers as well as Vera would say this also happens the same at Victoria Secret very strangely as usually the main Victoria Secret are very neutral and focused on their work yet they too are also laid back at the same time but some of the VS Outlets she [Vera] went there had made such attitude behind her back therefore she thinks the rejection from VS was a blessing in disguise.
Anyway; hopefully this can make up for the long absentee however on a personal note: please send prayers to my dad ever since he is going to hospital by this current Friday [As I am currently writing this on the same Friday my dad has to stay a night at the hospital.] Thus I do hope everyone can send him the unconditional and the steady prayers.
